Mill Scale Sump Solution for a Major Steel Mill

A steel producing partner of ours in the northeast U.S. was having major operational problems in their mill scale pits because the pumps that they had installed were nothing more than glorified water pumps pretending to be slurry pumps. Because they didn’t have the right pumps installed, every two hours they were having to hoist these glorified water pumps out of the mill scale that was essentially burying them and choking off their suction. And then every 16 hours, they’d shut down the complete operation, bring in the clamshell to clean out the sump completely. They were losing unconscionable time and putting their safety at risk every time they had to shut down their operation and touch these pieces of equipment.

We were asked to put our money where our mouth is, so we brought in a small horsepower submersible pump with our special agitation technology. We put that into the mill scale pit and in three to four hours had cleaned out the complete sump. The best part of the story for us was the maintenance super was so impressed, at the end of the project he asked if we were hiring because he thought he could make a ton of money selling our solutions to all the mills around the area.
